I was there late at the opening of the new Switch outlet in Gurney Plaza’s new wing, so there’s not really much food left but I manage to take the last few of all food. It’s a little party held for the opening of the new outlet and there’s a small buffet was served to the public. Looking at the plate, there’s cube cutlet of black pepper chicken and fruits on a stick, sausage and fruits on a stick, otak in crab shell, fried chicken wings, sushi, and some tart with cream.

Food that’s not in the photo were the salad with prawn and ice lemon tea made with 7up, fresh lemon, mint leaves, and some tea leaves.

That’s a pretty cool buffet they served, I believe it’s English food with a little bit of asian food from its sushi and otak-otak.

I just woke up feeling that I want to experiment on food photography. I got to say it’s pretty hard for me to play with food photography, especially it’s a little bit hard to catch the picture composition and the depth of field of the food for the right photo. Surf a lot of net and my hand was itchy to start on it.

I went to the Chinese restaurant in Penang Sports Club for lunch and we ordered 3 dishes. The Curry Kapitan Chicken, Sambal Vegetabla and Mutton in a Pot. From what I’ve known, guests are allow to go into the restaurant of the sports club and payment are via cards. Though, I don’t really see a lot of outsider. It’s my dad who is the club member but I don’t really go there to have my meal.

Let’s get into some photos.

Curry Kapitan Chicken

Curry Kapitan Chicken. The best dish of 3 but it’s not that good when comparing to my own homecooked version.

Sambal Vegetable, tasted a little bit too salty.

Lastly, I got mutton in a pot, cooked in Chinese style. I don’t like it.

Well, the subject is on the photography but not on the food, so don’t bother about the comment, what do you think about the photos? I spent around 2 to 3 minutes for shooting these and mom and dad were staring at me while I do so.

A Malay style sambal. Chili is pounded together with toasted Shrimp paste (belacan) in a stone mortar. Tomatoes are optional ingredients. Sometimes, sweet sour mangoes or equivalent local fruits are added. Salt, sugar and lime juice are the last items added. Eaten with cucumbers or ‘ulam’ (leafy herbs) in a meal of rice and other dishes. A Malaysian-Chinese version is to fry belacan with chili.

Just exploring myself with some photography technique. Taken this small plate of sambal in the Chinese restaurant in Penang Sports Club. I do usually eat sambal with omelette and also fried rice too. That’s all for me, how about you?

Fruits are good for health as it provides various vitamins and minerals to your body and also fibre to prevent constipation.

I do always visit this fruit stall somewhere in a turn on Burma Rd into Jalan Rangoon right after the old Lai Lai Supermarket or currently is the APT Hair Salon. It’s just on your left hand side it’s just tiny little fruit stall that sells a lot of fruits.

Dad will always want a pineapple and I will ask for a papaya. The lady very friendly too.

Eat some fruits now or else you will have hard time on the toilet bowl. =)

This is a old cafe hidden in one of the tiny lane in the heart of Georgetown. The specialities of what the cafe serves are the bread with kaya and butter, half boiled egg and kopi. That’s all for the cafe, it’s a local breakfast. Though, I had it for brunch today.

Toh Soon Cafe is the name. This has already been around for quite some years and this was my first visit to me. Thanks to mom for taking me here.

There’s nothing much you can order. It’s just bread with butter and kaya paste but there’s a variety of bread to choose from. What they have today were hainan bread, chocolate bread and coffee marble bread. It’s either steam or toasted and then put on some kaya paste and butter on it.

Try out some local Kopi Peng (Ice coffee with condensed milk), it’s quite nice.

There’s the half boiled egg. One that they are using just normal eggs instead of Omega3 eggs like in Old Town.

Here comes the bread. First up was Hainan bread, with kaya and butter inside. The bread was steamed so that it’s soft when it’s eaten. It’s not nicely served so the bread in the photo is a little bit ugly but it’s nice to eat.

Then we got chocolate bread and coffee marble bread with the same thing inside.

My personal favourite is still the hainan bread beacuse its softness.

If I’m not mistaken, they sell until mid afternoon. So you can have your afternoon tea there too.

Well, mom cooked Pei Dak Shao Yuk Chok / Pi Dan Shou Rou Zhou or known as the duck egg and pork porridge today for dinner. I’m not really a fan of porridge, are you?
