About
SHIOK OR NOT Dot Com is a place that I share my thought and craziness on food.
I am Nicholas and I love to eat, whenever I eat, I take photos, to share with the world about my foods, how nice and not nice it is. Restaurant review and introduction, good foods, bad food and sort of it. Food here in this site are more likely to be Asian Cuisine, but I also write about food in other country when I go for travel.
Shiok is commonly used in Malaysia and Singapore. It’s a slang from the local Hokkien dialect.
There’s a lot of word to describe it. It’s used to convey a feeling of sheer pleasure and happiness.
For example, if you really enjoyed a particular dish, the way ‘shiok’ would be used is ‘Wow! This dish damn SHIOK, man!’.
Another example, people here says “shiok or not?” after doing somethings, like games, sports or after a movie, it has a meaning of happy or not? fun or not?
Just like after someone having a meal, you ask him “The meal you had just now shiok or not?” (The meal you had just now, is it nice?”
So, I’ll share with you what I had eaten, whether it’s shiok or not. If it’s shiok, I can pass the shiokness (happiness) to you, to everyone and to the word. If it’s not shiok, I will also warn you so that you won’t waste your money and time for lousy meal.
Besides writing on food, I share about some information about what is happening in Penang and you can find a little information like directories, restaurants, cafes and food in Penang. Sort of promoting tourism in Penang. Penang is a little island where I live since I am born. So I might as well promote Penang to the world while sharing food photos with you guys.
For you information, I bring my camera around when I go to a restaurant, if you bump up with me, don’t be shy to say hi to me but you maybe surprise that I am very tiny because I am still a young teenager.
Have a nice day!
