It has a name before. Bali-bali, but now it’s Red Bali. It’s a seafood restaurant and quite famous among the locals here and it is located at Farlim. I guess a lot of people knew about this place. Because I’m staying quite far from Farlim, it’s like the other end for me and so I do not get to visit this place oftenly. The last time I eat at Red Bali I think was 7 months ago during Chinese New Year. Woah, that was long.

It was just a typical weekend dinner for us. Nothing big and fancy. Dad and mom went to Farlim to meet someone on the weekend night and we decided to have our dinner at Red Bali. It’s not only consist of seafood, there’s a wide range of Chinese dishes to choose from.

It’s a fried fish with chilli sauce, filled with onions and garlic. It’s crispy and doesn’t have a lot of bones and so it’s quite easy to consume.

I love soup, this is the *oh shit, i’ve forgotten the name*, a soup with a lot of vegetable and salted egg. Though this is not the best I had, it’s not salty or sweet enough, instead it’s a bit tasteless.

The local call this dish 四大天王 Si Da Tian Wang literally meaning 4 Big Kings, as there’s the lotus seed, petai, another 2 types of vegetable that I’ve never came across the names before fried with sambal and prawns. Simply delicious!

Well, the last dish was the sweet pork ribs. Personally saying that it’s not that nice. There’s a nice place that serve pork ribs in Tanjung Bunga, next time I’ll cover on that. You must dip it with the sauce provided and eat it else it’s just sweet on the outside. It’s not the taste but the meat is not soft enough. When eating ribs, less meat is the best.

Talking about the direction first. Imagine you are on Chulia St, you now there’s the famous Wen Chang Hainan Chicken Rice Shop, there’s a junction beside shop, turn right in and you will came across a flat, Boey Chong Kee is located just right below the flat.

My dad told me that the flat there is the earliest flat that exist in Penang. I have been to this place for a lot of time, since many many years ago, like when I’m small. Funny is we order the same dish every time we go there for dinner.

Vegetable is good for health. Plain fried Choi Sum 菜心 is nice but the portion is quite small.

Dad loves beef and he will other this fried Ngao Zhap 炒牛杂。There’s beef, beef’s organ and eggs.

Here comes my favourite dish of all time, the Ginger Duck Meat where it taste a bit salty and the sauce is nice. You should try this if you got a chance to visit this restaurant.

The fish head is also quite nice, it’s called the Hong Siu Yu Tou 红烧鱼头.

Seriously, I recommend this place, it maybe hard for you to look out, just check out the junction beside Wen Chang Chicken Rice Shop at Chulia Street at night. Though, you may need to get there early because there will be a lot of people at night and by then time you will have to wait long for the food to be served.

Chopperboard Food Corner has been in Penang for many years already. It has various branch, one at Gurney Plaza, one at Tesco, one at Bukit Jambul and another is at Queensbay Mall. Well, I worked there as a part time waiter too for a couple of month but seriously the pay was really low. Though, I still go there to eat sometimes. It’s a place that serves low price food and something that can fill your stomach. Food may not be the best but still good to eat.

So far, the most meal I eat there is the Black Pepper Chicken Rice set which is at RM5 something and come with a glass of ginseng tea. This is definitely cheaper than eating out at Gurney Plaza’s food court or McDonald’s. It tasted sweet and a little of spicy sometimes, and serves with rice and half side of boiled egg. Not bad, I still eat it all the time.

Recently, I’ve been ordering this Chopper Soup as a side dish. It taste like Shark Fins Soup, it’s a artificial one but it’s nice, really. You can try it like put it on the rice and eat it together. A bowl of Chopper Soup and a Black Pepper Chicken Rice, simply full!
