<p>Sukimye Hainan Kopitiam is one of the two eatery outlet right outside, and nearest to Taylor&#8217;s University College Lakeside College, don&#8217;t talk about the one in campus. I went there once, and I went there twice. This was my second time going there as the stall that I usually go didn&#8217;t open on that day. So I went there for lunch.</p>
<p>Looking around the menu, nothing interest me but I saw the Penang Prawn Noodles which is pretty cool as I was quite craving for my Penang hometown food, so I ordered one to try and see how it&#8217;s taste like and how when it is compare to my hometown&#8217;s.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/nicholas-chan/5032314859/in/photostream/" onclick="urchinTracker('/outgoing/www.flickr.com/photos/nicholas-chan/5032314859/in/photostream/?referer=');"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4083/5032314859_ddb88b546c.jpg" alt="" /></a></p>
<p>Here comes the Hokkien Mee or known as Prawn Noodle outside Penang. The chili paste is put separately and what&#8217;s different is there&#8217;s the fish biscuit which we call in Chinese which we don&#8217;t find in Penang. After eating, there&#8217;s prawn taste, it&#8217;s kinda spicy, a lot of noodle but less bee hoon. Overall it&#8217;s acceptable yet it&#8217;s still so not the same with Penang&#8217;s. I figure it out and I think why, I think that there&#8217;s no lard in the soup. Yeah, I think that is the problem.</p>
<p>There&#8217;s still many food at there you can try out. ^.^</p>
<p><strong>Sukimye Hainan Kopitiam</strong> is at Jalan PJS7/15 Bandar Sunway (Next to Taylor&#8217;s University College) Petaling Jaya, Malaysia, 46150. They have a Facebook fan page too. You can check it out.</p>

<p>Right across the city court, or right after Convent Light Street, on the corner of the junction of Green Hall and Light Street, there&#8217;s a new Hainanese, Old Town-style restaurant has just opened lately. I have no idea what that was before and I get to knew about it from my mom. How mom knows? From the newspaper. Hehe.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/nicholas-chan/4637920446/in/set-72157601690459174/" onclick="urchinTracker('/outgoing/www.flickr.com/photos/nicholas-chan/4637920446/in/set-72157601690459174/?referer=');"><img class="reflect aligncenter" src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3345/4637920446_60d20d6a1e.jpg" alt="2010-05-25 Lunch And Once A Gangster by nicholaschan." width="500" height="313" /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/nicholas-chan/4637921162/in/set-72157601690459174/" onclick="urchinTracker('/outgoing/www.flickr.com/photos/nicholas-chan/4637921162/in/set-72157601690459174/?referer=');"><img class="reflect aligncenter" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4071/4637921162_0881b8695e.jpg" alt="IMG_1433 by nicholaschan." width="500" height="334" /></a></p>
<p>The place was not very big, there&#8217;s like 15 tables and their water making bar is open. The interior is pretty cool with warm lights and the place has free Wifi. Good for geek food hunter like me. 32 Light Street is also a Halal restaurant means you won&#8217;t find lard in cooking or pork in their menu.</p>
<p>After looking through their menu, there&#8217;s food similar to typical Old Town-liked kopitiam, but 32 Light Street has more variety and the food are more on Hainanese style. They have food like Hainan Chicken Rice, Hainan Fried Rice and etc.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/nicholas-chan/4637312491/in/set-72157601690459174/" onclick="urchinTracker('/outgoing/www.flickr.com/photos/nicholas-chan/4637312491/in/set-72157601690459174/?referer=');"><img class="aligncenter" src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3168/4637312491_6ba34335cf_b.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="750" /></a></p>
<p>Here&#8217;s my lunch, it&#8217;s a Fried Rice ala Hainanese stye. To be honest, it&#8217;s just normal fried rice to me, I didn&#8217;t know where the Hainanese style comes in. The presentation is good but the taste is just typical fried rice.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/nicholas-chan/4637924006/in/set-72157601690459174/" onclick="urchinTracker('/outgoing/www.flickr.com/photos/nicholas-chan/4637924006/in/set-72157601690459174/?referer=');"><img class="reflect aligncenter" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4001/4637924006_b26e090840.jpg" alt="IMG_1452 by nicholaschan." width="500" height="334" /></a></p>
<p>Here&#8217;s another food I&#8217;ve ordered that day for my lunch. Curry Chicken with Bread. This is pretty good, love the curry, there&#8217;s Hainanese style afterall, the curry is creamy type unlike Old Town&#8217;s which is kinda water-ish. The chicken was nice too, just one thing that makes it not perfect is the bread. The bread should be toasted or use bread which is softer, this bread is hard, not as in toasted hard, but as in, er&#8230; hard. Haha.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/nicholas-chan/4637312001/in/set-72157601690459174/" onclick="urchinTracker('/outgoing/www.flickr.com/photos/nicholas-chan/4637312001/in/set-72157601690459174/?referer=');"><img class="aligncenter" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4041/4637312001_acddcd2b6a_b.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="750" /></a></p>
<p>Lastly, here&#8217;s my dessert. Ai Yu Bing, a kind of tasty natural jelly. There&#8217;s rambutan, some little tapioca ball and even tiny ball that I didn&#8217;t know what&#8217;s that. It&#8217;s small and a little bit like caviar as when you bite on it, it pops. Nice. The Ai Yu Bing by 32 Light Street is so far different from what I had before at other places. The jelly is somehow softer, it&#8217;s not harden enough. Not bad though.</p>
<p>So, have you been to this place before? =)</p>

Located in Ipoh&#8217;s old town, there&#8217;s 2 beansprout chicken outlet on Jalan Yau Tet Sin. One is Lou Wong and another is Onn Kee. Two also I have visited before, if you do listen to the radio, Lou Wong&#8217;s have made radio commercial before.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><span class="photo_container pc_l"><a title="IMG_0678 by nicholaschan" href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/nicholas-chan/4225062787/" onclick="urchinTracker('/outgoing/www.flickr.com/photos/nicholas-chan/4225062787/?referer=');"><img class="pc_img" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4038/4225062787_931868d3dc.jpg" border="0" alt="IMG_0678 by nicholaschan" width="500" height="333" /></a></span><a title="IMG_0678 by nicholaschan" href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/nicholas-chan/4225062787/" onclick="urchinTracker('/outgoing/www.flickr.com/photos/nicholas-chan/4225062787/?referer=');"></a></p>

<p>What&#8217;s so special about Onn Kee is that they have many photos of Asian&#8217;s celebrities eating out at there. Maybe this outlet is more famous then the neighbour&#8217;s shop? I don&#8217;t know. I like this place because it&#8217;s air-conditioned, not too hot.</p>

<p><span class="photo_container pc_l">Separated dish of beansprout and chicken. I like beansprout and I like chicken. The chicken is just more likely same as our Hainanese chicken rice&#8217;s chicken, though this chicken I ate was a little bit tough. I know a place in Penang <a href="http://shiokornot.com/2009/03/hot-bowl-nyonya-delights-white-curry-mee-at-abu-siti-lane/">has better chicken</a>, but since it&#8217;s 2 different place, this maybe the best in Ipoh.</span></p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><span class="photo_container pc_l"><a title="IMG_0684 by nicholaschan" href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/nicholas-chan/4225831742/" onclick="urchinTracker('/outgoing/www.flickr.com/photos/nicholas-chan/4225831742/?referer=');"><img class="pc_img aligncenter" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4027/4225831742_23903c5cfc.jpg" border="0" alt="IMG_0684 by nicholaschan" width="500" height="333" /></a></span></p>
<p><span class="photo_container pc_l">Here&#8217;s something different and that is their <em>char siew</em> (Roasted Pork). It&#8217;s honey barbequed and it&#8217;s something different and never eat before in Penang, not same like the <em>char siew</em> sell in Penang&#8217;s chicken rice&#8217;s stall.</span></p>
<p><span class="photo_container pc_l">Another thing is their speed is very fast, we sat down, ordered and in less than 10 minutes, everything is served. In so unlike in Singapore where I queued up for 45 minutes at Newton Food Centre for their Singapore&#8217;s famous chicken rice. That time was really OMG.<br />
</span></p>

<p>I think a lot of Penangite has already know about this famous hai nan chicken rice in town, <strong>Wen Chang&#8217;s Chicken Rice</strong>. It is located in the heart of Penang on Cintra Street. This chicken rice shop has gone on to papers and magazine before and my dad is a frequent visitor but not me.</p>
<p>This lunch visit, I got my camera with me and I am gonna share with you some chicken. =)</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://flickr.com/photos/nicholas-chan/2975969437/" onclick="urchinTracker('/outgoing/flickr.com/photos/nicholas-chan/2975969437/?referer=');"><img class="reflect aligncenter" src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3164/2975969437_3ea5cdef36.jpg?v=0" alt="IMG_3647 by you." width="500" height="333" /></a></p>
<p>First up, they bring you the soup, it&#8217;s free (with order of chicken rice).</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://flickr.com/photos/nicholas-chan/2975978285/" onclick="urchinTracker('/outgoing/flickr.com/photos/nicholas-chan/2975978285/?referer=');"><img class="reflect" src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3058/2975978285_c3bff247df.jpg?v=0" alt="IMG_3653 by you." width="250" height="376" /></a><a href="http://flickr.com/photos/nicholas-chan/2975973243/" onclick="urchinTracker('/outgoing/flickr.com/photos/nicholas-chan/2975973243/?referer=');"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3225/2975973243_6ce0debd38.jpg?v=0" alt="IMG_3652 by you." width="250" height="374" /></a></p>
<p>Then is the side dishes that dad order.</p>
<p>On the left we got <strong>chicken feet</strong> cooked with mushroom, different from what you eat at dim sum, dim sum&#8217;s is softer and hotter. This is not a bad one.</p>
<p>Right are <strong>lobak</strong> and some <strong>chicken&#8217;s organ</strong> etc liver and don&#8217;t know that the other is. I don&#8217;t really eat it, I eat lobak. Though the <strong>lobak is not very nice</strong> because it don&#8217;t have a crispy skin.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://flickr.com/photos/nicholas-chan/2976013535/" onclick="urchinTracker('/outgoing/flickr.com/photos/nicholas-chan/2976013535/?referer=');"><img class="aligncenter" src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3195/2976013535_af0b905581_b.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="750" /></a></p>
<p>White chicken and black (roasted) chicken. One word, nice, but then what I tried in <a href="http://shiokornot.com/2008/07/thailand-chicken-rice/">Bangkok</a> and <a href="http://shiokornot.com/2008/09/singapore-hainan-chicken-rice-at-kovan/">Singapore</a> seems better, different cooking style I guess and different places, different taste.</p>

<p>Georgetown do have nice Hainanese food. Sin Heng Aun or Shin Kheng Aun restaurant is one of the old restaurant that have been in town for a long time that serves nice Hainanese food. The restaurant is also operate by Chinese Hainanese, Mr Ong who is a very friendly person.</p>
<p>Located near Chulia Street where you see 7-11 then with a turn into Lorong Chulia and you will see Sin Kheng Aun. A little parking space is provided so parking is not really a problem there, a Indian man is always taking care of the parking space.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://flickr.com/photos/nicholas-chan/2949138501/" onclick="urchinTracker('/outgoing/flickr.com/photos/nicholas-chan/2949138501/?referer=');"><img class="reflect aligncenter" src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3034/2949138501_eeca8f2ba2.jpg?v=0" alt="IMG_3157 by you." width="500" height="333" /></a></p>
<p>Above picture showing is Mr Ong who runs the restaurant over years. He had been here for many years and remember when I was small like few years old, dad has already bringing me to eat out at Sin Kheng Aun. Restaurant is not AC but then it won&#8217;t be hot because air ventilation is good and there&#8217;s fan. =)</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://flickr.com/photos/nicholas-chan/2949991640/" onclick="urchinTracker('/outgoing/flickr.com/photos/nicholas-chan/2949991640/?referer=');"><img class="reflect" src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3003/2949991640_04deeb02f6.jpg?v=0" alt="IMG_3163 by you." width="250" height="376" /></a><a href="http://flickr.com/photos/nicholas-chan/2949992662/" onclick="urchinTracker('/outgoing/flickr.com/photos/nicholas-chan/2949992662/?referer=');"><img class="reflect" src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3160/2949992662_56e68ddb6d.jpg?v=0" alt="IMG_3167 by you." width="250" height="376" /></a></p>
<p>Sharing here are some dishes that we always ordered. It&#8217;s always been nice to me and that&#8217;s why sticking with the same dishes over and over again does not bored me off.</p>
<p>Greens we got 菜心清炒 which is <strong>plain fried of heart of cabbage</strong>. Remember to ask for &#8220;not so oily&#8221; because oily dish is not good for health.</p>
<p>Next is <strong>fried liver and pork</strong>. This dish taste sweet, I don&#8217;t like the pork liver because I don&#8217;t eat it but then the meat is nice and I love the gravy too.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://flickr.com/photos/nicholas-chan/2949139511/" onclick="urchinTracker('/outgoing/flickr.com/photos/nicholas-chan/2949139511/?referer=');"><img class="reflect" src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3277/2949139511_d53fc6ba42.jpg?v=0" alt="IMG_3166 by you." width="250" height="376" /></a><a href="http://flickr.com/photos/nicholas-chan/2949141215/" onclick="urchinTracker('/outgoing/flickr.com/photos/nicholas-chan/2949141215/?referer=');"><img class="reflect" src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3242/2949141215_103024ba62.jpg?v=0" alt="IMG_3174 by you." width="250" height="376" /></a></p>
<p>A famous dish in the restaurant is the <strong>curry pomfret</strong> (gulai tumis tow tay), soup in the fish is sourish and not very spicy. This is good, in fact all of these are good. Haha.</p>
<p>Chinese loves soup, I love soup and we got <strong>fish bone soup</strong> with a lot of toufu and pork.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://flickr.com/photos/nicholas-chan/2949993452/" onclick="urchinTracker('/outgoing/flickr.com/photos/nicholas-chan/2949993452/?referer=');"><img class="reflect aligncenter" src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3188/2949993452_91a9439450.jpg?v=0" alt="IMG_3172 by you." width="500" height="333" /></a></p>
<p>3 dishes and 1 soup for 3 person. It&#8217;s just nice.</p>
<p>Good place to eat some homecooked Hainanese food in a old coffeeshop restaurant.</p>
