There’s the local franchise OLDTOWN White Coffee and now there’s our Penang’s very own GEORGETOWN White Cofee. No, I’m not kidding. It’s opened in conjuction with the opening of Pacific Mall at KOMTAR and I thought it was OLDTOWN at first because they used the same font for their logo but it’s not, it’s GEORGETOWN!

From the paper, this GEORGETOWN White Coffee cafe is known as the biggest store in Malaysia but then I have yet to know the others franchise or branch store for this. Anyway, the cafe is pretty and I was with KOKahKOK and MX, we wanted to have our lunch there but we had a bad first time experience there.

IMG_9126

The cafe is huge but then first thing was the waiter didn’t come to us when we sit down. The foreign workers knew nothing about the menu and what they do were just clean up and serve the food. Person who take the menu was more likely a locals but then they walked slowly to us. I believe that they have not been well-trained.

Looking through the menu, I see that food are like OLDTOWN’s but with more Penang’s local food and price is of course not as cheap as at the kopitiam. I ordered a Rendang Chicken Rice and KOKahKOK ordered a Nasi Lemak.

The girl told us that the system in the cafe was down and food maybe served a bit late and they served us these kuih (worth RM4) for free. That’s fine when I heard that but then it took really very long, I even asked how long will it takes but then the waiter never came back to us.

IMG_9136

What we really had was just the kuih and our beverages. 2 GEORGETOWN White Cofee and a GEORGETOWN Chocolate. White Coffee tasted like there’s a lot of milk, not that bad for it but then I didn’t try on the chocolate.

We were fed up with the long waiting time, they were not prepared for something like this,  maybe it’s new to them but they have to train their staff well. They were like walking slowly, everything was so relax. We canceled our food, paid for the drinks and walked away. Others did this too, because it was too long already.

KOK then wondered, what if we did not order any drinks but food, then they serve the kuih for free, we eat it, cancel our food, and run! Haha.

Hopefully, they will improve on everything, perhaps price too! I’ll apologize them for giving us free kuih. Another thing was, there’s no wifi provided in store.

This is not a normal tang yuan because my grandmother has added ginger while making the tang yuan. Do you like tang yuan? Frankly, I don’t really like. I’ve tried tang yuan with wasabi in it and it taste good. Hehe.

Tāngyuán is a Chinese food made from glutinous rice flour. Glutinous rice flour is mixed with a small amount of water to form balls and is then cooked and served in boiling water. Tangyuan can be either filled or unfilled. It is traditionally eaten during Yuanxiao, or the Lantern Festival. [wikipedia]

Happy Winter Solstice Festival! =)

Get home and celebrate this wonderful Chinese Dong Zhi 冬至 festival with your family, it’s time for some reunion.

One of my favourite Starbucks Coffee’s drink is the Java Chip Blended Frappuccino with Whipped Cream on top. It’s so pretty, so delicious, so nice, so chilling to drink. Though the price is a little bit expensive.

I haven’t experiment on it yet. I was making myself a cup of chocolate drinks and think of making it as pretty as it is but I don’t have the ingredient, the only think I did was just blend it with ice. Later on, I went online and search for making something like a Java Chip Frappuccino and there’s really recipe on how to do it. I will go get the ingredient and make one for myself next time.

Ingredients:

  • 4 tablespoon chocolate syrup
  • 4 tablespoon chocolate chips
  • 4 cups double-strength freshly brewed dark roast coffee
  • Chopped or crushed ice
  • Whipped cream (optional)
  • Chocolate syrup (for drizzle, optional)

Steps:

  1. Get your blender and fill it about halfway with ice (either crushed or chopped).
  2. Pour the chocolate chips, chocolate syrup, and coffee into the blender.
  3. Turn on the blender to a medium or high speed. Try to get a thick, but icy mixture.
  4. Get four glasses and pour the mixture it them. Spray whipped cream on top of each one. Take the chocolate syrup (for your drizzling topping) and in a circular motion, drizzle some syrup on the whipped cream.

Note: This serves 4 big glasses, so you can share it with you friend.

Just a little bit sharing of my findings on the net. I’ll show when I get my lazy ass of the chair and get my hands on it. I love frappuccino!

I love coffee, do you like coffee? The Coffee Bean at Pavilion, KL is different from the rest in Malaysia. It’s situated on the lowest ground floor and in the middle of the mall. The good part of it is you need not to walk to the counter as you usually do and order your favourite brewed coffee.

You just need to pick a seat, sit down and the waiter will bring you a menu and serve you.

The bad part is, there’s no free Wifi, and no free self-service drinking water. You have to pay for the mineral water if you need some water. Usually, at other The Coffee Bean, there’s a jar filled with ice cold water for drinking purpose, it’s free though.

Brother ordered the dark hot chocolate that is shown on the first page of the menu, look pretty. There’s marshmallows but it’s just very tiny cubes of it. It’s a big glass of hot chocolate drink and frankly, it’s close to Milo. Maybe I can try Milo with marshmallows too. =)

Lemonade Carbonate with Ice Cream by you.

I was bored and I added a slice of lemon into the glass so that it looks pretty. Normally, it’s only 7UP carbonated softdrink and vanila flavour ice cream but there’s a slice of lemon inside. Making the 7UP taste a bit more sour and beautiful. =)

This is a old cafe hidden in one of the tiny lane in the heart of Georgetown. The specialities of what the cafe serves are the bread with kaya and butter, half boiled egg and kopi. That’s all for the cafe, it’s a local breakfast. Though, I had it for brunch today.

The little cafe is located right opposite this shop lots at the head of Campbell Street.

Toh Soon Cafe is the name. This has already been around for quite some years and this was my first visit to me. Thanks to mom for taking me here.

There’s nothing much you can order. It’s just bread with butter and kaya paste but there’s a variety of bread to choose from. What they have today were hainan bread, chocolate bread and coffee marble bread. It’s either steam or toasted and then put on some kaya paste and butter on it.

Try out some local Kopi Peng (Ice coffee with condensed milk), it’s quite nice.

There’s the half boiled egg. One that they are using just normal eggs instead of Omega3 eggs like in Old Town.

Here comes the bread. First up was Hainan bread, with kaya and butter inside. The bread was steamed so that it’s soft when it’s eaten. It’s not nicely served so the bread in the photo is a little bit ugly but it’s nice to eat.

Then we got chocolate bread and coffee marble bread with the same thing inside.

My personal favourite is still the hainan bread beacuse its softness.

If I’m not mistaken, they sell until mid afternoon. So you can have your afternoon tea there too.
