Yesterday afternoon I went to Grandma’s place and she cooked 4 dishes for lunch and all of them were damn nice!

Siong Tong Yuen Choi. Basically it’s vegetable, salted egg, century egg cooked together with soup.

Grandma’s food rocks and NS food does not rocks, except the chicken in camp hard like a rock. LOL

People usually buy these so-called economy char bee hoon in the morning, mostly at the market, it’s as cheap as RM1 or perhaps lesser. Recently, dad found a place where sell it at night. It’s at the junction of Lebuh Tye Sin (四条路 a.k.a. 4th Road) and Jalan C.Y. Choy. Actually it’s there for quite a long time already and we just found it out.

There’s only a few table at there, we waited a while for seat at there on the night, a few days ago. It was our supper.

The little stall also have red bean soup as dessert. I don’t know how to taste it out whether it’s good or not, they’re like the same to me, sweet.

Another HOT DAY TIP for you, head down to Penang Road to eat the Famous Penang Road Chendol. There’s two stall, be sure to check out the stall near to the coffee shop. =) I wasn’t so interested in chendol last time but ever since the weather got so hot here in Penang, I fell in love with it and liking it now. Sweet!

What’s better than eating ice cream on a very hot day? It’s Gelatissimo’s gelato ice cream! Recently, don’t know why, the weather here in Penang is very very hot, the temperature is sky high at more than 34 degree celcius, is it the sign of 2012? Haha, I hope not.

Anyway, 2012 or not, we still have ice cream to accompany us everyday. Last week, I went to Gurney Plaza and tried the gelato by Gelatissimo for the first time, ordered a two flavoured cup, Macadamia and Caramel and Chocolate. The creamy and sticky liked ice cream which melts under the tongue feels so good.

Now Penang Island has two donut cafe, one is Big Apple Donuts in Gurney Plaza and another one is J.Co Donuts and Coffee in Queenbay Mall. Thanks to my sponsors (do support my sponsor =]), I have got my paycheck and decided to buy some donuts home to treat my parents.

I went there and saw a lot of flavour and didn’t know what to pick.

Then the donut girl introduce me the 2 dozens mini donut pack which consists all of the flavours in one box. Since no need to waste my time picking, I got that one home. The tiny little mini donuts were cute and very fast to eat finish because it’s small.

I am not really a donuts guy, I don’t know what the difference between donuts made by different donuts cafe, I think they are all the same. What do you think? Which donuts cafe you prefer?

Last week, I went to a friend place to talk and found out that they were making cupcakes. I didn’t really know how to make and when I was there, they were almost finished.

Looks not bad, but FAILED. The cream was too soft, too creamy, melted and the cupcake muffin was too, I don’t know how to describe, it’s not crispy enough, it’s like not harden enough too. Weird feel. Gonna try again with other flavour next time.

After a nice tradition Thai foot massage, it’s 12am Malaysian time and it’s only 11pm Thailand’s time, we were walking along the street, on the way back to hotel. Then we saw a street food stall by the road side and dad decided to eat something.

he stall sells Koay Teow Thng ala Thai’s Chinese style and Chinese desserts (Tong Sui). Mom went to buy Thai’s 油条 (mandarin:you2 tiao2), a.k.a. yao zhar kway or Chinese doughnut. The shape was so different from what we have and it’s not hot.

The way of eating it is not eating with porridge as we Chinese do, or with Bak Kut Teh, or with soya milk like that Taiwanese does. They eat it with kaya sauce. Pretty special and the kaya sauce was sweet. First time eating you tiao in this way. One thing, if the you tiao was crispy and warm then it’s great.

We also ordered the Thai’s koay teow thng. From the look, it’s looks the same, but then when putting it into the mouth, it’s so different. There’s fish ball, meat balls, and some pork. The soup was very clear, different taste, like lack of lard and garlic. The koay teow, or aka flat noodle, was a bit fatter. Afterall, I still prefer Penang’s koay teow thng. ^^

I also ordered a bowl of their Chinese dessert aka tong shui. Tell you what, it’s super duper sweet, not good for health man. They really put a lot of sugar into it. Oh my god.

The Manila Place serves Asian and Western food, cakes and coffee. This was actually my 2nd visit to the restaurant ala cafe.

Getting into the food, me and brother ordered the set dinner which comes with a soup, main course, dessert and coffee. It’s always more reasonable than ordering it ala carte. Mom didn’t eat much, she just ordered the Soup In A Bun, which is one of their famous, mushroom soup filled in a dugged big bun. I think it’s just look pretty, after all it’s still the same mushroom soup that comes with my set dinner, except there’s lot of bread for you.

Salmon Steak was what I’ve ordered. Looking pretty with the food presentation, served with some potato wedges and some vegetable. When I say some, it’s really some, the portion was quite small and it’s not enough to fill the tummy of mine. The salmon feels kinda hard, they should have put in more gravy as it tasted rather tasteless to me.

Here is brother’s Sirloin Steak and looked good. He told me it’s good, I did not try it though. =)

Cakes are must have for birthday, so I ordered two slices of cake, one is a all time favourite, black forest and another is the coffee cheese cake. The cakes were not so sweet and it’s good, cakes that are very sweet are not good cake. I like the coffee cheese more.
