Roasted duck, roasted pork, roasted chicken and now the ROASTED PIGEON! Chinese are really good in roasted stuff and roasted pigeon is normally found in Hong Kong. It’s so yummy, the meat is better to chew than chicken and it’s awesome. Eat with some salt and yum yum.
Are you hungry now?
Today I want to bring you overseas to Hong Kong, to a restaurant that’s operate by my auntie and her family in Kowloon Peninsula of Hong Kong. The restaurant name is called Pak Lam Restaurant and located at Tai Tsun St 大全街 of Tai Kok Tsui 大角嘴 area. You may not know where I am talking about but please allow me to show you some nice food of my auntie’s restaurant.
My auntie is on my mom side and they are all Hainanese. So one of their famous food in the restaurant is the Hainan chicken rice. A set of this consist of vegetable, which very nice to me, soup, chicken and a big bowl of rice. I don’t know whether rice in Hong Kong is it very cheap, they tend to give customer a lot of rice. The chicken rice is different from here, the rice is a little bit hard, not so soft and a little bit oily, but it’s still nice.
Chicken Chop and Steak with white rice and a little bit of vegetable. Hong Kong loves chop a lot, pork chop, chicken chop, beef chop (steak). However, there’s too little vegetable for me.
Beef noodle. The beef is nice, but the noodle is not. It’s not the cooking is not delicious, it’s just that I don’t this type of noodle and that’s why. Beef is quite famous in Hong Kong by the way.

When you are going to Hong Kong, there’s a dessert shop that you must visit and it is Hui Lao Shan 许留山 (mandarin:xu3 liu2 shan1; cantonese:hoi2 lao3 shan4). It’s a very famous desert chain store in Hong Kong and you can find it at a lot of places in Hong Kong.
What they are famous for is their mango smoothy. A lot of mango cutlet, has a mango flavoured ice cream and taste very sweet.
Here’s a bird nest with coconut milk. It’s hot and not that bad. However, it taste more coconut then bird nest. I prefer ordering the fruit based dessert.
This is the carrot cake in XO sauce and I got to tell you that I like this so much. Delicious but then it’s small in portion. I have ate it twice when I was in Hong Kong few months back.
Lastly, we did try another light dish and it is the curry beef offal 牛杂 (cantonese:ngao3zhap2). It taste too much of curry powder and I still like the XO carrot cake more than this.
Price of dessert and food is like 15HKD-50HKD, and yet there’s still a lot of people visit the shop. This means that they are real good. Remembered there’s a Hui Lao Shan in Singapore few years ago but then it has closed down now.
Must visit, must go when you go to Hong Kong.
It will be great if someone franchise it in Malaysia.
After a trip to Hong Kong, only now I realized that the people there loves to eat instant noodle. Almost every char chan then (their coffeeshop) serves instant noodle. The most famous and favourite of all is the instant noodle with beef and eggs or sometimes sausages. We call it Maggi/Cintan Mee here where they call theirs Gong Zai Mee (公仔面).
A bowl of above noodles cost about HK$15. We were too hungry that time and we got no time to look for restaurants at Central already, and so we just went to the little food stall at the roof top of Queensway Plaza. Surprisingly, the place is filled with working people during tea time. It’s either noodle or buns, and I ordered a beef noodle. Never knew that it’s those instant noodle until it have been served. If it’s just plain noodle, it will not be good, but with beef and eggs, not bad.
Maybe it is the hectic life in Hong Kong, so that everything must be fast and so instant noodle it is. Taking too much of instant noodle is not good by the way.
