Do you know there’s hawker stall by the roadside of Jalan Mt Erskine? It’s just after the Mt Erskine wet market and the Taoist temple. Well, it’s near to my place so I do visit there for lunch some times. There’s 2 food that I like at there, the chicken rice and laksa.

Chicken rice is nice, the char siew is nice but the siu yok/sio bak is not nice. From what I’ve known, the chicken rice stall closed after 2pm because mostly by that time, they have already ran out of chicken.

This is always my combination, a chicken rice and a bowl of assam laksa. It can be said that it’s one of the nice laksa in this area. It’s not too sweet like the one near Penang Chinese Girls High School, just nice. Good one. =)

The food stalls only operate during lunch time until tea time, there’s also economy rice, fried indian noodle, cahr koay teow, desserts and more.

This is just a random photos post showing the donuts that I’ve tried before. So far, I’ve been there once time, at 2 donuts before. There’s so many choices and I can’t remember all the names, I should jot down all the names next time, buy all and try it all. You can ask the staff to pick all the recommended one for you.

I’ve tried the chocolate and cappuccino flavoured. Love them as they are very creamy in the inside. That day, I just ordered 6 for take away because there’s no place to sit already, so I took them to the food court.

One thing I don’t like about the location of the shop being in the basement, I prefer something bright like at the alfresco area of the mall where’s there’s inside and open air.

Anyway, various choice of donuts, some coffee and free wifi, nice.

Additional information for you, Big Apple Donuts and Coffee is Made in Malaysia. Big Apple is a nickname for New York City.

Seriously, I have think of opening a restaurant in the future. It won’t be a typical restaurant, I prefer opening a cafe/lounge where there’s food, nice beverage, and open space for people to chat, wifi Internet and free Internet web surfing for my customer. Penang has too little cafe already, there’s only Starbucks, Coffee Bean, Dome, Breeks and Big Apple Donuts. Whereas there’s a lot of choice instead of these famous one in the United States. If I got a chance (in the future), I should a cafe business in Penang too. =)

Starting a F and B business isn’t easy, need to look for ideal place where there’s a lot of crowds and demand, need to provide good food and (coffee), nice environment, place must be 101% hygienic clean, buy a lot of kitchen supplies and equipment, plan your menu and etc etc.

After I did some research online (for my own fun), there’s actually a lot of site that supplies restaurant supplies and equipment. One of which is Lionsdeal.com. From what I know, they even gives out kitchen equipment discount too. Selling not only plates and cutlery, they got chafer for buffet use too. Free shippings, free club membership and whole lots of deals too.

Anyway, this might be too early for me, but you can use this as your reference. Cheer!

A little more info about my dream cafe, there’s coffee (for sure and cheaper than Starbucks), nice snacks, cakes, soup, there’ll be free wifi connection. They main point is bring a good cafe envinronment to everyone at a affordable food price. Starbucks is for $$ kid, my cafe is for everyone.

In the heart of Georgetown, you can actually find a lot of nice food. One of which is a little stall in a little kopitiam that does fried related food like fried rice, fried Hainan noodle, fried hor fun and fried yin yeung.

I never know there’s nice fried rice in Penang until this visit to this little kopitiam (cafe) on Kimberley St (Lebuh Kimberley).

That’s the front of the coffeeshop kopitiam Yik Kheng Kee, the little stall is where the uncle does his fried (food).

We ordered 2 food, a plate of fried rice and fried hor fun. First up was fried hor fun (char hor fun), it’s not yin yeung (hor fun and bee hoon), but just hor fun. It’s quite nice, but a bit little. The egg is waterish or not well-cooked so that the gravy has a little bit of taste of egg. There’s prawn, a little bit of vegetable and hor fun itself.

Then the fried rice comes. It took quite some times like 15 minutes for the fried rice to be serve. Guess there’s a lot of people ordering it. The rice is nice, not very soft, and it’s not dark fried rice as you can see. Different fried style.

Well, I’ll say that I will visit this place again, cheap and good place for lunch.

It’s located in Tai Hin Cafe, a kopitiam on the corner of Melaka Street and Anson Rd. It’s just right across Anson Rd Market, if you can find the market, you can find the Wan Tan Mee.

I ordered a small plate of Wan Tan Mee and the plate was indeed very small and there’s only 3 wan tan. Well, personally think that the noodle is not that nice, not so springy, but the wan tan or so call dumplings in English is not bad.

For nice noodle, I like the one on Chulia Street and at Padang (will cover on it next time :] ).

I had a Penang Assam Laksa in the evening at around 5pm. It’s definitely not enough for dinner, in fact it was not a dinner meal. After my tuition class, I went to Goodall hawker centre which is right opposite Penang Chinese Girl High School on Gottlieb Rd for supper. Let’s share with you guys what I’ve eaten for supper just now.

4 pieces of roasted chicken wings. Not very well roasted, so it’s not very nice. RM1.50/chicken wing.

The Japanese rice that I always eat at there. Unagi Don which has unagi (eel), egg, another egg wrapping a crap meat and a soup. This costs RM10 and I kinda like it, that explains why I always eat this. I love unagi!

Click here for the map to Goodall hawker cafe.

I think a lot of Penangite has already know about this famous hai nan chicken rice in town, Wen Chang’s Chicken Rice. It is located in the heart of Penang on Cintra Street. This chicken rice shop has gone on to papers and magazine before and my dad is a frequent visitor but not me.

This lunch visit, I got my camera with me and I am gonna share with you some chicken. =)

First up, they bring you the soup, it’s free (with order of chicken rice).

Then is the side dishes that dad order.

On the left we got chicken feet cooked with mushroom, different from what you eat at dim sum, dim sum’s is softer and hotter. This is not a bad one.

Right are lobak and some chicken’s organ etc liver and don’t know that the other is. I don’t really eat it, I eat lobak. Though the lobak is not very nice because it don’t have a crispy skin.

White chicken and black (roasted) chicken. One word, nice, but then what I tried in Bangkok and Singapore seems better, different cooking style I guess and different places, different taste.

Georgetown do have nice Hainanese food. Sin Heng Aun or Shin Kheng Aun restaurant is one of the old restaurant that have been in town for a long time that serves nice Hainanese food. The restaurant is also operate by Chinese Hainanese, Mr Ong who is a very friendly person.

Located near Chulia Street where you see 7-11 then with a turn into Lorong Chulia and you will see Sin Kheng Aun. A little parking space is provided so parking is not really a problem there, a Indian man is always taking care of the parking space.

Above picture showing is Mr Ong who runs the restaurant over years. He had been here for many years and remember when I was small like few years old, dad has already bringing me to eat out at Sin Kheng Aun. Restaurant is not AC but then it won’t be hot because air ventilation is good and there’s fan. =)

Sharing here are some dishes that we always ordered. It’s always been nice to me and that’s why sticking with the same dishes over and over again does not bored me off.

Greens we got 菜心清炒 which is plain fried of heart of cabbage. Remember to ask for “not so oily” because oily dish is not good for health.

Next is fried liver and pork. This dish taste sweet, I don’t like the pork liver because I don’t eat it but then the meat is nice and I love the gravy too.

A famous dish in the restaurant is the curry pomfret (gulai tumis tow tay), soup in the fish is sourish and not very spicy. This is good, in fact all of these are good. Haha.

Chinese loves soup, I love soup and we got fish bone soup with a lot of toufu and pork.

3 dishes and 1 soup for 3 person. It’s just nice.

Good place to eat some homecooked Hainanese food in a old coffeeshop restaurant.

Click here for map to Sin Kheng Aun Hainanese Restaurant.

I went to McDonald’s for lunch today and wanted to order a Big Mac. Later then, I saw a new burger right next to Big Mac burger poster and it’s Big N’ Tasty. Since there’s a new word on it, I ordered it instead of Big Mac for a try. It’s RM10.30 before tax. I got to tell you that everything in McDonald’s is getting more expensive now, need to pay more than the red paper note RM10 because of the taxes.

Anyway, let’s check out the burger. When I saw it, it gives no surprise to me. It’s just like a normal Big Mac but with a bigger piece of beef in my opinion, more vegetable, tomatoes slices and a piece of cheese.

From wikipedia,

The Big N’ Tasty is a hamburger, consisting of a quarter-pound, or 4 ounces (110 g), beef patty, sesame seed bun, lettuce, tomato slice, mayonnaise, ketchup, chopped onions, two pickle slices, and grill seasoning. Cheese can be added on request.

The Big Tasty configuration is somewhat different, consisting of a third-pound beef patty, 5-inch sesame seed bun, square-cut lettuce, two tomato slices, Big Tasty sauce (which has a smoke flavor), sliced onions and three slices of Emmental cheese.

Somehow, after trying this I tell myself I’m gonna stick with Big Mac or Chicken McDeluxe next time. It’s just, er…. expensive.

Now, with every large value male or a la carte of large french fries, you get the shaker powder for free.

I went to try out a new western food stall in Tanjung Bungah. Not sure whether heard about it before or not? It’s located in the little food court right opposite The Cove Condominium, near to Copthorne Orchid Hotel. Outside the food court, there’s actually a sign writing “Famous Fish & Chips”, so we went in to try it out.

The little western food stall is called Max Deli Western Delight. There’s a lot of choices of local style western food.

I ordered myself a mushroom soup with garlic bread as an appertizer, I was hungry at that time. The soup is creamy, but not it still can be cremier. Though, there’s a lot of mushroom which I like.

This is the Max Deli Grilled Chicken. At first, I ordered a Grilled Black Pepper Chicken but I’ve decided to change it to this because with the name Max Deli, I thought it was their special dish like the Chicken Special at Pulau Tikus. Well, I got to say this is just very normal dish to me, taste more or like a Chinese dish, with lots of onion. I should have tried others than this.

This is what they called the London Fish and Chips. It’s just simillar to the one in Breeks Cafe. This is a lot better than the Max Deli Grilled Chicken. Though, it still can be more crispier. Overall, this is not a bad one, you can give it a try.

Unfortunately, the food court is not very well-maintained and clean, though there’s still a lot of people having meal there in the evening.
