The hawkers set up food stall beside the Pulau Tikus market every night. I will go there to eat my dinner when mom’s not cooking like once in a week and one of the most ordered food there for me is the duck meat koay teow thng. The soup taste nice, I always ask for extra ingredient like duck meat and fish ball. Nice food at Pulau Tikis market.
It’s pretty busy recently with the school exams and I have been staying at home all day long for doing the last minute revision. Well, it’s a weekend today and I took a break from my study and went out for breakfast at Hutton Lane. If you are not sure where Hutton Lane is, it’s the road behind New World Park.
This coffee shop is famous for its Koay Teow Thng as my dad is one of their oftenly visit customer. Yes, he loves Koay Teow Thng and me too! It’s known as Koay Teow here in Penang but people from the central region like Ipoh or Kuala Lumpur will name the Koay Teow as Hor Fun but it’s still the same flat noodle. Different places, different name.
Back to the coffee house. It’s located at the first junction of Hutton Lane which intersects with Lorong Amoy.
Mom ordered the Kuih Kosui, a kind of nyonya kueh or simply known as the nyonya cup “cakes”. The kuih itself is sticky and not so sweet and that’s why the grated coconut is sprinkled on top. For RM1.20, we had it as appertizer.
Here comes the “main course” which is the Koay Teow Thng. We asked for extra ingredients and the person was so kind to put in so many extra stuff like fish balls, meat, pig intestines. Guess what, so much and it’s all for RM3.50 per bowl. It’s very good deal and I like it. Try asking for some fried garlic and adding it into the soup will makes it taste better.
In addition, they gave us a bowl of free vegetable and beansprouts in the soup. Thanks to my dad who is a frequent visitors and they know my dad loves vegetable. I just loves this place as it’s so much in a bowl of Koay Teow Thng and you have to wait for seats sometimes because it’s always full unless you are lucky.
A cup of hot milo + koay teow thng = simply enjoying.
