Balik Pulau’s Asam Laksa is quite famous among Penangite. A few weeks ago, I went there with my parents to eat the Balik Pulau Asam Laksa. The famous one is the Balik Pulau market’s one but then during that trip to Balik Pulau, I found out that the whole Balik Pulau market was vacant and there’s no more food stall there.

According to some locals, the market has moved to the new place. Luckily, we found a Laksa stall opposite the old market site which was also the place for the famous Balik Pulau Laksa. I am not sure whether it is the one that used to be at the old market or not but after trying it, it’s good.

There’s a Chuan Heong Cafe just right opposite the old vacant market.

Well, the Asam Laksa is good and the laksa guy was kind enough to point us way around the little Balik Pulau county.

Another thing is, I found another Laksa stall beside the old market, this stall seems to have more people and it serves Siam Laksa besides Asam Laksa, so do you know any of these? =)

Do you know there’s hawker stall by the roadside of Jalan Mt Erskine? It’s just after the Mt Erskine wet market and the Taoist temple. Well, it’s near to my place so I do visit there for lunch some times. There’s 2 food that I like at there, the chicken rice and laksa.

Chicken rice is nice, the char siew is nice but the siu yok/sio bak is not nice. From what I’ve known, the chicken rice stall closed after 2pm because mostly by that time, they have already ran out of chicken.

This is always my combination, a chicken rice and a bowl of assam laksa. It can be said that it’s one of the nice laksa in this area. It’s not too sweet like the one near Penang Chinese Girls High School, just nice. Good one. =)

The food stalls only operate during lunch time until tea time, there’s also economy rice, fried indian noodle, cahr koay teow, desserts and more.

My first time eating out at Toast Box, a kopitiam style cafe (etc. Old Town, Ya Kun Kopitiam) in Singapore was 2 years ago at Vivo City. I was in Singapore 2 weeks ago and once again, I went to have my afternoon tea there with my family. They provide free wifi and nice food.

Introducing my favourite Mee Siam. It’s actually fried bee hoon (rice noodle) pour in the soup or sauce which taste sour and there’s egg and bean sprouts. I like the sourness of the soup.

This is the Laksa. This is what we haven’t tried before and it was our first time. It’s not like any other laksa in Malaysia etc. Penang Assam Laksa, Johor Laksa, Siam Laksa, it’s their Singapore Katong Laksa, taste a bit like Curry Mee’s soup if you have tried Singapore Laksa before. I’ll say this so so only.

The nice food at Toast Box is their kaya toast, half boiled egg and I’ll add in Mee Siam for myself. We didn’t ordered toast because 2 bowl of noodles were enough for us.

There’s Toast Box in Malaysia, one is at Food Republic food court of Pavilion, KL and another one is at Sunway Piramid.

We were hungry just now and dad took us for supper. At first, we wanted to go to Pulau Tikus market to eat Asam Laksa for supper but unfortunately the stall didn’t open for business today. It was 10 and we didn’t want to go far to eat laksa, we went to Gurney Drive hawker area there instead.

The first thing came in my mind was “why go there?”, it’s because of hawker food at Gurney Drive is getting more expensive and it is getting lousier. Seriously, the hawkers are more to doing tourist business than locals. Though, there’s 2 things that are still nice there which is the Asam Laksa and Soya Bean, also tau hua/tau fu fa.

However, there’s 3 laksa stalls if I am not mistaken. One of my friend did told one of those is her favourite, but I’ve forgotten which. Daddy also forgotten which stall’s laksa is nice so we went randomly.

So, we ordered 2 bowl of laksa from the No 11 stall. It seems like I had tried before, a long time ago. Nevertheless, I am gonna try all next time. The laksa is pretty sour and vegetable filled but not so spicy. If you like sour, you will like this. But then it’s too sour for me already, I prefer something like sweeter or saltier. Different places serve different taste of laksa but all of which has a sour taste. It’s depends on how balance on the taste it is. Dad says it’s nice, I’ll say it is not so good. I prefer somewhere else’s laksa. What do you think? =)
