In Penang, there’s a very famous curry mee at Lorong Seratus Tahun, the road name literally means 100 years lane and I have no idea why is it named so. Most Penangite who love to eat sure knows about this place and the curry mee. Located in an old kopitiam on the corner, the kopitiam has a vintage feel as the owner love Chinese oldies.
The spiciness depends on how much curry paste you put in. Nothing much to review, I have to say, it’s good and nice.

Fried Noodle Bee Hoon that rocks.
I went to National Service (PLKN aka Program Latihan Khidmat Negara, was in KEM PLKN WHITE RESORT, BALIK PULAU) for the past 6 weeks and the food at there sucks (sometimes). I’ll talk about it in another post. In this 6 weeks of NS, the best food of all was still the vegetarian food provided by the Than Hsiang Temple on our Saturday Buddhist praying time.

Fried Hor Fun that is awesome!
Sometimes we got Fried Maggi Noodle ala vegetarian style and sometimes we get fried hor fun. You know why they’re good? Because it had been a long time I didn’t eat Chinese food in camp already, all meals provided in the NS camp were Malay-cooked food and they were not that good.
The fried noodle bee hoon I had in the temple last weekend was awesome and I ate too big plate of it during tea time then I skipped my dinner in camp. =)

They do have a good vegetarian food restaurant.
Lor Duck is actually teowchew inspired braised duck. I went to have dinner at Maga Kopitiam at Jalan Perak there just now and I ordered a plate of lor duck rice.
For RM3.50, I got a plate of lor duck and a plate of rice. I couldn’t say the duck was awesome, it’s good but not awesome. The duck was braised with the lor sauce, then there’s garlic and green onion. Eating the duck meat with the chili sauce was good. The set was not complete because there’s no vegetable. =)

Just recently only get to know about a Penang food and that is Teluk Kumbar’s Mee Udang (Prawn Noodle). My friend told me it’s a must eat when visit to Teluk Kumbar and it’s famous at there. I still didn’t get a chance to go there try it out yet.
Few days ago, I went to dinner at Paya Terubong there, East Coast Kopitiam. There’s many hawker store and one of which sells Teluk Kumbar Mee Udang. I was curious about how it’s like so I ordered a plate to try it out.
I thought Mee Udang, the Prawn Noodle is like Penang Hokkien Prawn Noodle but actually it’s not. It’s on a plate, not a bowl, with lime to be squeeze into the gravy/soup. Saw few sotong and the most important, shrimps/prawns. It taste kinda nice though, sweet and sour and a little bit of spicyness, I like it!
Find a fine day, I’m gonna go Teluk Kumbar to try the real mee udang already. This one is just beta testing. =D
